Only 14 Percent of Executives Rate CEOs Reputation As Positive

The majority of executives in America’s biggest companies – 66% – believe that the reputation of CEOs today is largely negative, according to a survey conducted by leading global public relations firm Weber Shandwick with KRC Research. Only 14% give CEOs a positive rating and the remaining 20% are non-committal. Despite CEOs’ low approval rating, approximately one out of two executives (49%) report being interested in becoming CEO one day, virtually unchanged from earlier aspirations.

Most Workers Say Their Companies Are Taking Right Steps to Weather Recession

A recent survey suggests the majority of professionals believe their employers are rising to the occasion when it comes to responding to the downturn. Nearly seven in 10 (69 percent) workers interviewed said their companies are taking appropriate steps to weather current economic conditions. Additionally, more than half (55 percent) feel their employers will emerge from the recession stronger than before. Still, there is room for improvement: Three out of 10 respondents (30 percent) said their companies are doing only some things or nothing right.

Business, engineering, and technical majors from the Class of 2009 are most in-demand. At the bachelor’s level, federal government employers appear to be the best bet for the top five majors in demand. At the master’s degree level, nearly 60 percent of respondents who plan to hire master’s degree candidates will target those with M.B.A.s. At the doctorate degree level, employers are looking for engineering and computer-related degrees.
