“Why Can’t I Get a Job?”

“Why Can’t I Get a Job?”

Everyone makes a few stupid mistakes when they’re young, right? And, if you’re lucky, no lasting harm is done. Young people also tend to change their minds a lot about what they’re going to be when they grow up. That motorcycle racing career may look glamorous today but in a few years, once the kids, the house and the dog come along, you’re likely to find yourself looking for a 9-5 job. Will you be employable?

First impressions are everything when job hunting and working with the public in any capacity. With the popularity of tattoos and piercings these days, many people aren’t thinking ahead to circumstances where excessive modifications could cause them problems. Yes, you may think you’ll never “tow the line” and move into the mainstream job market, but are you willing to risk your future on it? (Just look around at “old hippies” you know – the vast majority went mainstream at some point in their careers.) Be careful of the decisions you’re making now so that someday you don’t wake up and find an unemployable face staring back at you in the mirror.

Below are some examples of irreversible body ‘enhancements’ which will turn off most potential employers:

Many potential employers will be turned off by excessive facial and body 'enhancements'.

Honestly, If you do that to your body and you don’t get a call back its your fault. I had a choice not to do that to your body, and the employer has a choice to thank you for leaving after a interview and never returning to the premises!

I love how the job market shuns people for having tattoos or body modifications, it’s as bad as racism. Ya sure you did it to your body but, it’s YOUR BODY.

Perhaps. But depending on the nature of the company or its product, it has every right to refuse to hire someone who will make customers uncomfortable or unwilling to shop in their store or otherwise do business with them. A tattoo, or even a few tattoos is one thing, but 50 piercings, a pentagram on your face, and modifications to look like devil horns is over the top. They are entitled to look like the devil if they want, but no employer should be required to overlook that in their hiring process.

Actually even small tattoos turn off employers. Any tattoo on the face bars you from many jobs.
